Joseph David Keery, born April 24, 1992, is an American actor and musician. He is perhaps best known for portraying Steve Harrington in the Netflix science fiction series, Stranger Things (2016). Joe releases music under the stage name Djo.

Joe participated in Theater in the Open, a performing arts camp at Maudslay State Park when he was young. He primarily began acting in high school. Joe went on to study at The Theatre School at DePaul University and graduated in 2014 (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting).

Before his breakout role in Stranger Things, Joe appeared in various commercials and had roles in Empire and Chicago Fire. Joe’s first film role was as Gabe in Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party (2015).

In late 2015, Joe was cast as Steve Harrington in the Netflix series Stranger Things. Joe initially auditioned for the role of Jonathan before auditioning for Steve. In season two, Joe was promoted to a series regular after being a recurring cast member in season one.

In 2020, Joe starred in the satire film, Spree. He later appeared in the Netflix specials Death to 2020 and Death to 2021.

Joe portrayed Walter “Keys” McKey in the action comedy Free Guy (2021).

In May 2022, Joe joined the sci-fi action film Cold Storage.

Joe first released music under the name Cool Cool Cool. He was part of the psychedelic rock band Post Animal but later left due to acting commitments.

On July 19, 2019, Joe released the single “Roddy” under the stage name Djo. The second single, “Chateau (Feel Alright),” was released on August 9, 2019. On September 13, 2019, Djo released his debut album “Twenty Twenty.” Djo released a new single, “Keep Your Head Up,” on September 9, 2020.
